The picture of the close up reminds me of the act of judging. From far away the rose looks like a beautiful freshly picked flower, but when you enlarge the picture, or bring it closer to your face, it’s blurry, unclear, and possibly fake.

I was positioning the rose and glanced over at my window, and saw the reflection. The picture, itself, is a little fuzzy. It kind of made me think of the saying “the grass is always greener on the other side.” However the rose looks like it could either be from the outdoors, or simply a flower in my dorm.

I know this is a goofy picture. But the reason why I brought the plastic yellow rose to college was to remind me to be my goofy self. Every time I look at it now, I smile. I associate yellow roses not only with Texas, but also with happiness. I wanted to take the picture up close so I could really portray what I associate the rose with.

no real deep explanation for this one. I just recognized the rose on my blanket, and thought it would be cool to dim the lights when I took it.

I automatically associate yellow roses with Texas. Though it is not our state flower, it became a folk song called “The Yellow Rose of Texas.” I wanted to do the picture at that particular angle to channel the references to songs. There is another folksy song about Texas involving stars. Also, I wanted to give the viewer my perspective when I sit down every day and look at the flag. I see it as my inspiration, and it reminds me to never forget where I came from.
