I chose to use a coffee mug as my subject because it's my favorite coffee mug, and it has one of my favorite quotes from Gandhi printed on the front. Because this is a coffee mug, I thought it'd be great if I could get a picture from a different angle showing steam. I had just poured a cup of coffee and was trying to snag a picture of it steaming before it cooled down. I like the angle because you can see the coffee in it and still see the outline of the mug itself.

I pointed my desk lamp directly on the mug so it illuminated the wording. You can see the imperfections of the mug (i.e. smudging and prints and whatnot), but I like how the light is directly on it and creates that line down the middle due to the light.

I wanted to view the mug from a different vantage point. This involved me crawling on the floor looking up at the coffee mug. It's a little blurry but I think it adds a little something.

I tired to make the mug be the focal point of the shot. With the tree branches kind of faded in the background, the mug sort of stands out. Also, because the mug is black and the leaves are green, it makes the mug pop against the background.

In this picture I wanted to capture its shadow and show that effect. The lighting is kind of dim but I wanted to make sure I could get the shadow in the picture.
