This photograph was taken by
Alfred Eisenstadt in the 20th century after the Japanese had surrendered. It one of those photos where Alfred was in the right place at the right time. In the streets of New York that day, the sailor had grabbed the nurse, who he didn't know, and kissed her because of the joy of the news. When I first looked at this I thought it was a love photo, that they were a couple kissing in the streets of the city. Knowing why the picture was taken makes me look at it very differently.
This photo was taken by Charles Ebbets. This photo is of 11 men eating their lunch high above New York City. The photo was taken during the building of the Rockefeller Center. It was taken to be put in a news paper during that time. He had also taken another photo of these men laying on a beam taking a nap. I think the photos were taken to maybe show the construction of the Center. It does somewhat change the way I looked at this photo. At first I had thought that it was posed, but to look at it knowing that it is what the men were actually doing, makes it a very interesting picture.

This photography is taken to remember all those lost during September 11th 2001. I think this photo was one of the more famous ones used throughout books and newspapers. I think this photo was taken to show patriotism. The firefighters placing a flag over ground zero symbolizes a lot about what the US was like the weeks following the attacks. Knowing that the photo was taken for these reasons does not make me look at it in any different way. I still look at it to remember what happened and to remember all that was lost.
